(MENDON) – The Village of Mendon is going to be a little busier than normal for the next few days.
The 32nd annual Mendon Riverfest started last night with the opening ceremony and then the Lip Sync Contest. This year's winners were in Group A: Lexi Rodriguez; Group B: Harper Alexander; Group C: the Mendon Girl Scouts; Group D: Courtney Johnson and in Group F, the Pitchfork Gang.
As in years past, a majority of the Riverfest events take place in Reed Riverside Park, along the banks of the St. Joseph River. Riverfest Committee President Spencer Howe says several of the activities will be right in the river. That includes the canoe race, the canoe swamp, the duck race, the toy boat race and free pontoon rides Saturday afternoon. There will also be free paddle boards to use for anyone over the age of 13 to use.
There are several new events for this year according to Howe, including the free yoga classes; the wild world adventures and pony rides and the poker paddle run on Saturday.
Today's activities include the fireman's BBQ; the silent auction; the Mendon cheerleaders ice cream social; inflatables for the kids; a cornhole tournament, the classic car cruise in at 5:30 PM and live music in the evening with the groups Deadwood, Top Secret, the Muwendo Children's Choir and In The Grey.
