Sturgis City Commission Tables Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission has tabled a proposed adult use marijuana ordinance.

During their November 13 meeting, City Manager Mike Hughes presented a proposed ordinance dealing with adult use marijuana businesses. The draft was prepared by the Dickinson-Wright Law Office and City Staff, based upon Sturgis' existing medical marijuana ordinance and direction from the City Commission.

Vice Mayor Mark Dvorak voiced some concerns about the proposed ordinance. He wonders if the ordinance shouldn't be voted on by the citizens of Sturgis. LINKC.

Commissioner Jeff Mullins questioned why this was being delayed yet again. LINKD.

A motion to consider the draft ordinance as a first reading died due to a 4-4 vote. The Commission then agreed to table the matter until their next meeting on November 25.
