Coldwater Man Arraigned On Murder Charge
Wednesday, November 20, 2019

(COLDWATER) – An arraignment was held Monday for a Coldwater man charged in the June 2018 death of a man in his Ovid Township house.

Branch County District Court officials say 41 year old Chad Danbury was arraigned on charges of second degree murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Danbury was arrested in October in relation to the death of 36 year old Gregory Morrison.

At 12:25 AM on June 3, 2018, Michigan State Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Morning Glory Lane to investigate an assault. Troopers arrived and found Morrison unconscious. They performed CPR but were not able to revive him.

During their initial investigation, troopers determined that Morrison and Danbury had gotten into a fight and Morrison had reportedly been choked. It was also determined the two men had been drinking and Morrison's blood alcohol level was .24.

Medical Examiner Dr. Troy Davis said at the time Morrison's death was due to asphyxiation due to neck compression. Then Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble declined to pursue charges, saying after the investigation they could not find any criminal intent on Danbury's part.

Branch County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Zachary Stempien says the charges against Danbury were brought after further investigation by the State Police.

Not guilty pleas were entered on Danbury's behalf. He remains free after posting a $250,000 bond. Danbury will have a preliminary hearing on January 9.
