(VOLINIA TOWNSHIP) – An incident in Cass County's Volinia Township led to a man being shot.
Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to investigate a home invasion in the 20,000 block of Marcellus Highway Friday just after 6:30 PM. Deputies located 35 year old Jonathan Niswonger and 34 year old Shasta Blankenmyer who live at the house.
During their investigation, Niswonger told officers that a man attempted to force his way into his residence. After the man got into the house, a fight broke out and Niswonger shot the suspect in the abdomen. The suspect got into his vehicle and drove away.
Deputies later found the 34 year old Elkhart man at Elkhart General Hospital where he was being treated for a single gunshot wound.
Behnke say no one has been arrested in this incident yet and the Cass County Prosecutors Office is reviewing the case. It remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
