(UNION CITY) – A crash Monday injured a Union City man.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department says 49 year old Scott Cayo was driving on Dunks Road when he passed out and went off the road. Cayo's vehicle struck a power pole and cut it off. The pole almost hit an 88 year old man who was mowing his lawn.

The vehicle continued on and went across Rustic Hills Drive and into a wooded area, where it struck two trees and then came to a stop.

Deputies say the airbags deployed, but Cayo struck his head on the windshield, giving him a cut. He was not wearing his safety belt.

Cayo was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be treated.

Assisting deputies were the Union City Police and Fire Departments and Life Care Ambulance.
