(UNDATED) - With uncertainty surrounding the prospects of a college football season, the Big Ten joined other conferences and its television partners to release a statement on Tuesday, declaring it has agreed to an extension beyond the June 1 deadline for determining early season game times. The schedule will be determined at a later date. The announcement came as the sport continues to grapple with the fallout from the coronavirus. The Big Ten has shelved organized team activities until the start of June. While Illinois and Iowa have indicated that they will bring athletes back to campus for voluntary workouts soon after restrictions are lifted, other schools haven't revealed their plans. Michigan and Michigan State are directly affected by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Stay Home, Stay Safe order, which has been extended through June 12. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal this past weekend, U-M President Dr. Mark Schlissel expressed some skepticism about going forward with the 2020 football season, saying there will be no intercollegiate athletics if there is no on-campus instruction for students. The Big Ten presidents and chancellors are scheduled to meet June 7, and one of the major items on the agenda is expected to be the future of fall sports.
