(THREE RIVERS) – A shooting injured one person and led to a vehicle crash.
Three Rivers Police say they were called at 3:30 PM Monday to U.S. 131 near Broadway Avenue. Officers arrived and found a vehicle off the road.
As they investigated the incident, officers learned a passenger in the automobile shot himself in the leg by accident. The driver became startled, left the roadway and crashed the vehicle.
A tourniquet was put on the victim's leg and they were taken to an area hospital to receive treatment.
As they searched the vehicle, officers found three unsecured handguns, along with marijuana and packaging, that were near the firearms.
The case has been sent to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Criminal charges may be issued.
The Three Rivers Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
