(BRUSHY PRAIRIE) – Three seats on the Prairie Heights Board of Education will be on the ballot in the November 3 General Election, with two being challenged.
There will be a new face representing Salem Township on the Prairie Heights Board. Incumbent Jim Courtright, who currently holds that seat, is not seeking re-election.
Running for the position are Jill Engel-Walworth and Heather Culler.
Engel-Walworth and her family have lived in the District for the last 15 years. All three of her children have attended Prairie Heights and one is still in High School. She has a background in manufacturing and says that schools have a responsibility to promote the trades as much as they do for college.
Culler says if elected one of her priorities would be making sure every child has the ability to succeed in and out of the classroom. She also wants to have the School Board be transparent to the public.
Culler and her husband have two children.
In the race for the Jackson Township seat, Incumbent Robert Ledgerwood is being challenged by Aaron Pfafman.
Ledgerwood has been on the Board for 12 years and currently serves as the Board President. He has lived in the District for 29 years and both of his children graduated from Prairie Heights. Ledgerwood says he still wants to serve and support the children of the School District.
Pfafman served on the Prairie Heights Board of Education from 1980 to 2008. He graduated from Prairie Heights in 1970 and had lived in the School District his whole life. His wife and children also graduated from Prairie Heights. Pfafman says it's the responsibility of the Board to keep the public updated on building needs and issues along with making smart financial decisions.
The third seat is held by incumbent Michael Howe, who is seeking re-election and is not being challenged.
