(LANSING) – Michigan saw a slight increase in the December 2018 jobless rate.
Data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management And Budget shows the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December increased by a tenth of a percent from November, rising to an even four percent. Total employment for the month edged up by 1,000 while the number of unemployed rose by 4,000 resulting in a monthly labor force gain of 5,000.
Jason Palmer, Director of the Bureau Of Labor Market Information And Strategic Initiatives says Michigan's labor market showed continued improvement in 2018. He says the State's jobless rate fell for the ninth consecutive year while payroll jobs rose for the eighth straight year.
Michigan's December jobless rate was seven-tenths of a percentage point below the December 2017 rate of 4.7 percent. It was also one-tenth of a percentage point above the national rate in December of 3.9 percent.
