LaGrange County School Enrollments Vary
Monday, February 11, 2019

(LAGRANGE) – LaGrange County public school enrollments vary by geography.

Numbers on the Indiana Department of Education website show the Westview School Corporation has held its own over the last ten years, actually increasing by four students from 2007 to 2017. Even so, Westview sought and won a referendum to increase tax support for local schools.

Both Lakeland and Prairie Heights in the central and eastern portions of the county have lost students over the decade. Lakeland is down 13 percent while Prairie Heights is down 27 percent.

Lakeland is considering a plan to close elementary schools in Howe and Wolcottville before seeking a referendum on increasing taxes.

Prairie Heights closed the Pretty Lake Elementary a few years back and last year successfully passed a referendum to support the schools.
