(STURGIS) – Two special vaccine clinics will be held this week in Sturgis for people who may have been exposed or unvaccinated for measles.
Rebecca Burns, Health Officer with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says the vaccine clinics are open to the public. They will be held Wednesday, April 10 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Sturgis WIC Office, located at Sturgis Medical Common II, 1555 East Chicago Road; and then on Thursday, April 11 from 2 PM to 6 PM at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 South Nottawa Street.
The CHA will also accept appointment and walk ins for the vaccine in their Three Rivers office during normal business hours of 8 AM to 4 PM. The office is located at 1110 Hill Street.
The CHA with support from the Michigan Department Of Health And Human Services is currently investigating the potential exposure to measles in the Sturgis area. As reported by the Indiana State Department Of Health a confirmed case of measles was considered contagious at the time that
person was in Sturgis.
Individuals who visited Holy Angles, the San Miguel Grocery and the Wal Mart Super Center in Sturgis on March 31, may have been exposed. They are urged to watch for signs of measles and to seek the measles vaccine if they are not vaccinated.
Symptoms of the measles usually appear 10 to 12 days after exposure. They include fever, rash, cough, runny nose and watery eyes. Rash and fever usually occur four days following the early symptoms.
