(STURGIS) - Sturgis Public Schools is hoping to have some new playground equipment at Congress School before the 2019-2020 school year.
During last week's Sturgis Board of Education study session, Director of Finance Ray Sterling shared about the project. He did say that this would be done with money from the recently passed sinking fund millage.
Sterling says there are three playground areas at Congress School currently. This project would replace the main oval playground area. The school wants to replace playground surface, equipment and structures, which can all be paid for with sinking fund dollars.
Sterling says documents are available to contractors right now. The time line calls for bids to be opened on June 4, and then vendor interviews on June 7.
If everything looks right, Sterling says on June 10 the Finance Committee would make a recommendation to the Board of Education. Should the Board approve the recommendation, work would start July 1 and hopefully be done by August 16.
Sterling says if the bids come back too high or there are other issues and concerns, the project can be postponed until a later time.
