Smoke Testing To Be Done On Bronson's Sewers
Saturday, June 15, 2019

(BRONSON) – Smoke testing will be done on the Bronson sanitary sewer system.

City Manager Brandon Mersman says starting June 17, sewer inspection crews from Prein&Newhof will be doing the smoke testing, which locates breaks and defects in the sewer system and finds places where storm and other surface waters are entering sanitary sewers.

Bronson residents can expect to see work crews opening manholes in the area. Smoke testing can cause smoke to enter the sewer system through the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground. A special non-toxic, harmless smoke is used in these leak tests. It is manufactured for this purpose and has little odor, creates no fire hazard, leaves no residue and has no effect on animals and plants.

Mersman says the smoke should not enter homes or businesses, unless they have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps. If smoke should enter a home or business, please contact a member of the smoke testing crew working in the area.

Testing will continue until July 12. If anyone has questions, they can call the City Offices at 517-369-7334.
