Bomb Threat At Cass County Courthouse
Friday, June 21, 2019

(CASSOPOLIS) – It was a scary time Friday morning at the Cass County Courthouse.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says at 8:45 AM Cass County Central Dispatch received two 911 calls indicating that a bomb had been placed at the Courthouse and would go off when the timer expired. Central Dispatch notified the Sheriff's Department and Courthouse security and a decision to evacuate the building was put out to employees and visitors. In addition, the County Building was also evacuated.

Sheriff's Deputies and Security personnel searched the buildings but didn't find anything suspicious. The Berrien County Sheriff's Office K-9 officer was called in and did a search of the interior and exterior of the building, without locating any explosives or anything out of the ordinary.

At 11:45 AM, Behnke says employees and visitors were allowed back into the Law and Courts Building. Then at 12:30 PM, employees and visitors were given permission to go back into the Cass County Building.

Officers have been following up on leads from the calls and other resources, and believe an identification of the suspect is close. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to call the Cass County Tip Line at 800-462-9328 or Cass County Central Dispatch at 269-445-1560.
