LaGrange Co. Commission Wants To Fix Fire Paging System

(LAGRANGE) - LaGrange County Commissioners gave their support to a project aimed at fixing the county’s fire paging system.

Sheriff Jeff Campos describes the problem. ...... {LISTEN}.

Last August a proposal from E-R-S included software to simulcast all fire department pages over communications towers county-wide at a cost of just under $841,000. The addition of towers at the jail and the ridge between Lagrange and Stroh pushed the cost to nearly one million dollars.

After nine months of study by a committee, the new cost is just over $880,000. LaGrange County REMC wants to partner with the county and would cover approximately $125,000 of the cost of a tower on the east side of the county.

Commissioner Terry Martin says the committee recommends paying for the upgrade by tapping the hospital trust fund. ...... {LISTEN}.

That fund is currently used to pay for the county contract with Parkview Health for ambulance service. Tapping the trust fund would shift the cost of ambulance service to the new public safety tax sooner than previously planned.

The question of funding will go to the LaGrange County Council next month.
