As a part of the upcoming Vermont Settlement Festival in Orland, the Bill Henderson Memorial Baseball and Softball Tournament will take place at the end of July.

It’s a Baseball Tournament, a Softball tournament, and a Home-Run Derby. Put on by the Orland Tiger’s Youth League, the 5th Annual Bill Henderson Memorial Baseball and Softball Tournament is set to return on July 28th through the 30th. President of the Orland Tiger’s Youth League and Tournament Director Craig Curtis says that this tournament is more laid back and for the family.

“There's so much more for kids to do than just come play softball and baseball,” says Curtis.

But it’s not all about playing the game, as the tournament is in honor of someone special to the Orland Tiger’s Youth League program, Bill Henderson.

“Bill Henderson, who was a longtime sponsor and supporter of our program, unfortunately lost a battle to cancer.” said Curtis, “I took over as president of the league in 2012, and we just decided that it was fitting to honor a great man, and put the tournament together in his honor...”

Curtis also says that this tournament serves as a thank you and farewell to students who are aging out of the program.

“The Bill Henderson Tournament is actually a tournament that is designed for our last age group of kids in our program, with the 15U boys being the oldest group of boys. So it’s kind of a farewell, thank you tournament to them, and same thing with the 14U girls.”
