Hysong Appointed to Angola Council; And Makes Big Announcement
Thursday Jul 13, 2017 1:14am
Angola, IN

By: Sheila McCrea

A caucus was held on Wednesday to fill the vacant seat on Angola city council, vacated by Mike McClelland.

Since Councilman McCelland is a Republican, it was up to the County Republican party to fill the remainder of that term. There are 4 precincts in the city of Angola. The 4 precinct chairs were the ones that had opportunity to vote, which consisted of Kevin Jones, Kim Shoup, Ryan Herbert and Wade Stiefken.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Rick Michael and the rules were read. The 2 candidates, Joe Hysong and Oren Skinner were each given 5 minutes to promote themselves to the 4 precinct chairs. The vote was taken by secret ballot.

Ken Shelton and Mary Martin were appointed by Chairman Rick Michael to rally the votes. The vote ended up a tie, 2 votes for each candidate. Per the rules, the County Chairman is delegated to break the tie.

Chairman Rick Michael thanked each candidate for placing their names on the ballot and stated how pleased he was that we had 2 extremely qualified candidates to choose from.

Chairman Michael chose Joe Hysong. Joe will be sworn in Thursday and will officially be on the Angola City Council for the remainder of McCellands term.

Joe Hysong also stated that he will be running for Mayor of Angola in the next election cycle.
