This year five people were awarded the Mighty Oak title at the 45th annual Heritage Festival, hosted by the Prairie Heights FFA. The Mighty Oak is an award presented in honor of Ned Stump annually to one representative from each of the townships in Steuben and LaGrange counties that are part of the Prairie Heights school district.

This years awardees were Tammy Shultz, Deb Lewis, Bev Todd, Jeannie Graham accepting for her late Husband Jim Graham, and Lois Faust.

Shultz taught at Prairie Heights Elementary School for 32 years and her children attended Prairie Heights. She just retired from teaching.

Lewis has been involved in Boy Scouts, 4-H, concessions at the Stroh Youth League and helping connect people to the resources of WIC.

Todd continues to work at Prairie Heights as a reading coach, after starting in 1975 and teaching for 38 years.

Graham’s wife, Jeanne, accepted the award on his behalf. Mr. Graham passed away this year. The Grahams were foster parents to many children and involved in numerous activities, including church, athletics, and band boosters.

Faust worked at Milford Elementary School for years and then in the Prairie Heights High School cafeteria. She also volunteered for 20 years at the clothes and food basket in LaGrange, as well as a variety of other organizations.
