Quincy Police Chief Scot Olney is resigning from his position.
In a media release, Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga (ZOO-ga) says Olney has submitted his letter of resignation. He says the Village appreciates the almost five years of service from Chief Olney and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
Zuzga has appointed Jeremy Burch to be the Interim Chief until a decision on a permanent replacement is made. Burch has been with the Police Department since it was formed in 2013 and previously served for many years with the Branch County Sheriff's Department. Zuzga says he has full faith in Burch's ability to lead the department and provide the level of service that the community expects.
Olney was hired to be the Quincy Police Chief in January 2013 when the Village decided to reform the department after ten years of contracting with the Sheriff's Department for police service.
Zuzga says no decision has been made on a timetable to permanently fill the Chief's position.
