(COLDWATER) – If you get a call and the number shows up as 911, be careful of who may be on the other end of the line.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack says his office along with other police departments in the county have been getting calls from citizens, who say they have received calls and the caller ID shows up as 911.
The caller then tells the person that a family member has been in an accident and asks them for some personal information.
Pollack says that if Branch County Central Dispatch should call you, it would not show up as 911, but as a ten digit number. He also reminds citizens to not give out personal information over the phone.
