Branch County Commission Candidates Set

(COLDWATER) – Two contested races for seats on the Branch County Commission have been settled.

District 4 incumbent Commissioner Ted Gordon won the Republican nomination, defeating Scott Stevens 609 to 255 in Tuesday's Primary. So far, there is no Democratic candidate for the November General Election.

In District 5, incumbent Republican Randall Hazelbaker defeated Alexia Rish for the party's nomination 866 to 237. No Democratic challenger has been named for the November General Election.

Incumbents Terri Norris in District 1 (829), Leonard Kolcz in District 2 (894) and Donald Vrablic in District 3 (1069) were all unopposed for the Republican nomination.

Branch County voters were also presented with several millage requests. One was asking for an increase of 1.25 mills for 20 years to construct a new jail. That was approved 4119 to 3521.

Also approved yesterday was the renewal of the operating millage for the Branch County Commission On Aging, 5812 to 1784. It's for .4908 mills for a five year period.

Voters in the Quincy School District approved a renewal for a sinking fund millage request, 728 to 447. The current rate of 1.5 mills will continue to be collected for another five years.

Butler Township residents voted down a millage request of 1.5 mills for ten years for fire control services with 113 No votes to 108 Yes votes.

Voters in Batavia Township approved a millage renewal 195 to 56 for fire protection and equipment. The millage is for .5 mills for six years.
