(CENTREVILLE) – Voters in St. Joseph County turned down a millage proposal for Glen Oaks Community College.
The proposal, which was asking for .5 mills for five years, was defeated with 10,095 No votes to 9,381 Yes votes.
If approved the money raised would have been used along with funds from the State of Michigan to do updates to the college, such as security and safety, energy efficiency upgrades, renovation of technology labs, classrooms and other student spaces and internet infrastructure.
In related news voters re-elected Kimberlee Bontrager to the Glen Oaks Board of Trustees with 10,754 votes. She will be joined on the Board by Carol Higgins, who received 9776 votes and defeated incumbent John Bippus who got 7638 votes.
In addition, incumbent Board of Trustees member Alice Gieber was re-elected to a partial term with 14,842 votes.
