Michigan football players on award watch lists
Tuesday, July 16, 2019

(ANN ARBOR) - College football watch list season has arrived, and the Michigan football team has a few players getting early recognition. Wolverines senior quarterback Shea Patterson landed on the 2019 Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the country's top player overall. A returning starter, Patterson threw for 2,600 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season with a quarterback rating of 149.9. Elsewhere, Michigan senior cornerback Lavert Hill and senior safety Josh Metellus landed on the 2019 Bednarik Award watch list. The Bednarik Award goes to the country's top defensive player. Hill, a first-team All-Big Ten corner and Thorpe Award semifinalist last season, returned to Michigan this winter after flirting with the idea of declaring for the NFL draft. He's a two-year starter and a two-time third-team All-American. Metellus, meanwhile, had 48 tackles (3½ for a loss) and three interceptions with six pass breakups last season as a starter. He was a second-team All-Big Ten performer last season.
