(STURGIS) – Sturgis Public Schools has a budget for the 2019-2020 school year.
Monday afternoon the Sturgis Board of Education held a hearing on the proposed budget. Business Manager Ray Sterling presented the information, stating that proposed General Fund revenues for the upcoming school year would be $33.7 million.
Part of the revenue is made up of money from the State which is the per pupil foundation allowance. Sterling says there was some confusion on the amount school districts would get this year from the State. He explains how Sturgis Public Schools came up with the figure they used for their budget. That brings the total foundation allowance for Sturgis Public Schools to $8,031 per student.
Sterling says projected enrollment will be down for the upcoming school year to 3,222 students. That is a reduction of 35 students from the 2018-2019 school year. With the increase in the foundation allowance, Sturgis Schools will see an increase in State funding of almost $137,000.
General Fund expenditures are proposed to be $33.6 million.
The Board of Education approved the budget by a unanimous vote.
