(STURGIS) – A police chase ended with the arrest of the suspect.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Brad Balk says at 2:49 Saturday afternoon, Central Dispatch received calls about a black SUV driving in a reckless manner on U.S. 12 near Balk Road. The callers said the SUV almost struck two motorcycles.
Sheriff's deputies located the vehicle in the City of Sturgis. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver would not slow down, and led officers on a high speed chase out of Sturgis with speeds exceeding 100 MPH.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle, forcing him to crash in the 31,000 block of Witt Lake Road. The driver, a 21 year old Elkhart man, was arrested on several felony charges and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
A 33 year old Elkhart woman was in the vehicle during the chase. She was not injured and released from the scene.
Assisting deputies were the Sturgis Police Department, the Burr Oak Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.
