(BRONSON TOWNSHIP) – A weekend crash sent an Angola man to the hospital.
Michigan State Police say a citizen heard a noise near his home in the area of Orland and Kosmerick Roads in Bronson Township at 4:15 AM Sunday. When the homeowner didn't see anything, he called 911.
Troopers responded to the scene and found an SUV in a field near Prairie River. Investigators say the driver of the SUV, 20 year old Juan Mendoza, fell asleep while driving south on Orland Road and struck the guardrail. The vehicle went airborne, going over the river and landing on the ground.
Mendoza was not wearing his seatbelt but the airbags in the SUV did deploy. He was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries to his head and hand. He was given a citation for careless driving.
