(CENTREVILLE) – A plea agreement has been entered into by the former director of the Three Rivers Area Mentoring Program.
St. Joseph County Circuit Court personnel say former TRAM Executive Director Randall Norton plead guilty to a charge of larceny greater than $200 but less than $1,000. He was arrested in July on a charge of Embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000 from a Non-Profit Charitable Organization.
Three Rivers Police Chief Thomas Bringman says on January 22, 2019, a detective with his department met with TRAM board members about possible embezzlement. The new director found inconsistencies in the books along with missing money.
In April, an auditor turned in a report of TRAM's books and found misuse of the non-profit's debit card. The auditor also found fraudulent reports made to the Board about the accounts, missing cash deposits, and grants that were not applied for to sustain TRAM's mission.
Based on the audit, search warrants were sent out for records of transactions that were identified as embezzlement. Almost $10,000 was identified as personal expenses paid out by TRAM to Norton. Just over $11,000 was identified as excess payroll that was paid out to Norton.
As part of the plea agreement, Norton will not serve any jail time. His sentence is still pending and he will be ordered to make restitution.
