(COLDWATER) – The case against 28 year old Coleman Royer is moving on to Branch County Circuit Court.
District Court officials say a preliminary hearing was held on Wednesday for the Coldwater man, who is charged with Homicide-Felony Murder, along with First Degree and Second Degree Child Abuse in connection with the death of his infant daughter.
On February 13, Coldwater Police received information that a five month old Coldwater infant was at the University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital being treated for life threatening injuries. Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid (shyd) says his department immediately initiated an investigation, sending officers to Ann Arbor where they learned the infant had several traumatic injuries. The child died the next day.
Their investigation determined the child was initially taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and then taken to Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne before being transferred to Ann Arbor.
Following several months of investigation, an arrest warrant was issued October 23 for Royer by the Branch County Prosecutor's Office. On October 24, Royer turned himself in at the Branch County Jail.
Royer is being held without bond. He is scheduled to have a pre-trial conference on January 6.
