(STURGIS) – Adult use marijuana businesses will be allowed to operate in the City of Sturgis.
By a 6-3 vote Wednesday night, the Sturgis City Commission approved the second reading of an amendment to the City's Code Of Ordinances, pertaining to adult use marijuana establishments.
City Manager Mike Hughes shared some of the changes they made from the first reading at the November 25 meeting. LINKC.
That buffer would not allow a retailer or micro-business within one thousand feet of any medical marijuana provisioning center or other retailer on City of Sturgis property zoned BH 1.
Justin Wickey offered an alternate ordinance during the November 25 meeting, which was voted down. On Wednesday he asked his fellow Commissioners if they wanted to change their vote from the first reading. If not, then the matter could move on. No one supported that motion so it died.
Commissioner Jeff Mullins says he was contacted by the public and explained to them why he supports the ordinance. LINKD.
In related matters, the Commission also approved a zoning ordinance amendment second reading; the first reading of a repeal of ordinance sections prohibiting marijuana establishments; the first reading of amendments to the medical marijuana ordinance Section 38-92 and changing the marijuana ordinance fees.
