(LIMA TOWNSHIP) – A high speed chase has landed a man in jail.
The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office says deputies were attempting to locate a stolen motorcycle at 6:20 Wednesday morning in the area of 50 East and 700 North. The motorcycle was reported stolen out of Frankfort, Indiana.
A deputy observed a Honda motorcycle traveling north on 50 East at a high rate of speed. The officer tried to stop the motorcycle, but the driver refused to stop.
The motorcycle entered Michigan with the deputy in pursuit. The suspect came back into Indiana heading south at speeds greater than 125 MPH. The suspect stopped the motorcycle at the intersection of State Road 3 and County Road 300 North, where he was taken into custody.
The driver, identified as 49 year old Jamie Gayheart of Mongo, was taken to Parkview LaGrange Hospital where he was cleared medically. He was then transported to the LaGrange County Jail where he was charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle; possession of meth; possession of stolen property and reckless driving.
Other charges are pending. The matter remains under investigation.
