(LANSING) – Gretchen Whitmer normally doesn't address rumors that are spread about her or her family.
On Tuesday, Michigan's Governor did take some time during her press conference to talk about an incident. The rumors started after a story that was run in The Detroit News, stating Whitmer's husband Marc Mallory, had tried to get a company in Antrim County to get their boat and dock installed before the Memorial Day weekend.
Whitmer says the incident was taken out of context. LINKC.
Whitmer says her husband did go to their other home, but it was just him and for only a short time. LINKD.
In the Detroit News article, Tad Dowker, owner of NorthShort Dock LLC said he posted on May 21 on his Facebook page his office received a call from Mallory last week. The post happened three days after Whitmer announced she would lift some business and travel restrictions in Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
Dowker says Mallory asked about getting their boat and dock installed. Since the business had just opened and was three weeks behind, Mallory was told he would have to wait. Dowker says Mallory asked if being the Governor's husband would help expedite his request. Dowker says when he told him no, Mallory was respectful and understanding.
Dowker says up until that point, he didn't know they installed Mallory and Whitmer's dock and boat.
