(UNDATED) – Health officials say there were eight new cases of COVID-19 reported in Southern Michigan as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, 5 new cases have been detected in St. Joseph County. There are now 129 people that have tested positive for the virus, and there are two people who have died from it.
Branch County is reporting 3 new cases of coronavirus, which brings the total number of people that have the virus to 124. There are also 2 people who have died. There were no new cases in Hillsdale County. They have 170 people with coronavirus and 24 people who have passed away.
The Michigan Department of Corrections says no new cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater. Currently there are 793 inmates and 34 staff members with the virus. There have been 23 inmate deaths at the facility.
Cass County also has no new cases, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. There are 83 people who have coronavirus and 3 people who have died.
Statewide, 199 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported around Michigan. That makes 57,731 people who have tested positive. There were also 37 more deaths reported as of Tuesday. That makes 5,553 Michiganders who have died.
