(BRONSON) – Bronson Community Schools have canceled the Junior-Senior Prom that was supposed to be Thursday night.

Bronson High School Principal Wes McCrea posted on the school district's Facebook Page that a group of administrators, parents and students made the difficult decision to cancel the prom for this year. McCrea says after talking with health department officials, the safest decision for the students is to not hold a dance. He did say the group is considering alternative ways to celebrate safely while adhering to State guidelines.

McCrea says the decision was made with the long term goal of keeping students healthy for graduation and returning to school in the fall.

Bronson's graduation is scheduled for July 16. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced.
