(STURGIS) – Rates will be going up at both Sturgis cemeteries.
During a recent meeting, the Sturgis City Commission was presented with a proposal to increase the rates for both Oaklawn Cemetery and Sturgis Memorial Gardens. Director Of Public Services Rick Miller presented the proposed increase. LINKC.
The current cemetery cost for Oaklawn is $814. The increase would make the rate $855 in 2021 and $898 in 2022. For Sturgis Memorial Gardens, the current cost is $750. The increase would make the cost $788 in 2021 and $827 in 2022.
Miller says under the current rate structure, there were discounts of between 10 and 45 percent for City residents being buried in the cemeteries. The new rate structure would give a 20 percent discount to City residents.
In related business, Miller suggested opening up a new section of Oaklawn Cemetery. LINKD.
