(COLDWATER) – Hydrant flushing will start Monday in the City of Coldwater.
The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities says flushing will begin in Ward 1, then move to Ward 3, followed by Ward 2 and then Ward 4.
Over time sediment and deposits can naturally accumulate in the pipes and storage tanks. If these are not removed by flushing out the hydrants, City officials say there could be a reduction in the water quality, which would result in poor taste, odor problems or even discoloration.
The CBPU says they will also be able to test the pressure of the flow of water for the fire department, ensuring the hydrants are functioning in the right manner.
You may notice a slightly different color of the water while the hydrant flushing is underway. If that happens, slowly run cold water from a faucet until the water clears up. City officials say this is also a good time for home owners to flush out your water heaters.
If you have any questions, you can call the CBPU office at 279-9531.
