(STURGIS) – There are three people running for two seats on the Sturgis Board of Education in the November 3 General Election.
Election officials say Betsie Drumm and Lynn Brand will have their names on the ballot when voters go to the polls. Frank Perez is running as a write in candidate. Perez was able to file his forms prior to the deadline, but a technicality was discovered forcing Perez to run as a write in candidate.
Brand is a Sturgis graduate, who was a teacher at the high school for 36 years and recently retired.
Drumm is also a Sturgis graduate and has ties to the school district through her family. Two of her aunts and uncles were employees for Sturgis Public Schools for several years. Her mother was also a teacher for Sturgis Schools.
Perez is the owner of a Sturgis insurance agency and wants to get involved to make sure the children of the school district have the best education possible not only now, but for years to come.
Long time Board of Education members Paul Gorsuch and Ann Bird are not seeking re-election, leading to the two open seats.
