(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – Two people died over the weekend in a Cass County house fire.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called just after 5 PM Saturday to assist the Porter Township Fire Department with a house fire in the 70,000 block of Tharp Lake Road.

Once the fire was put out, an investigation was conducted. 69 year old Patricia Cloud and 37 year old Brandon Cloud were unable to escape from the house, and succumbed to injuries from the fire.

Also assisting at the scene were the Penn and Central Cass Fire Departments, the Edwardsburg Fire Department and EMS along with the SEPSA Fire Department and EMS. Also assisting were the Osolo, Bristol and Cleveland Fire Departments from northern Indiana, along with the Michigan State Police.

The case is still under investigation.
