(ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP) – One person is dead following a crash between a truck and an Amish buggy.
The Branch County Sheriff's Department says the buggy was heading east on Lester Road, just west of Colvin Road in Algansee Township just before 9 AM Friday. The horse spooked as a pick up went by it. The horse jerked the buggy into the truck fender and all seven passengers in the buggy were thrown out.
Authorities say 39 year old Barbara Schwartz of Reading, died after being taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Schwartz’s husband was not seriously injured and rode to the hospital with responding EMS personnel.
Five children in the buggy, ranging in age from 7 years old to 3 months old, were all taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
