(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Department of Public Safety Fire Division was called out to two fires in two days.
Deputy Director Andy Strudwick says around 2 PM Monday, the Fire Division was sent to the 200 block of Susan Avenue for a report of a residence on fire. The arriving units found the fire was actually in a detached garage behind the residence.
The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing its spread to several nearby homes and limiting damage to the garage.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Sturgis Fire Marshall.
Then at 9:30 AM Tuesday, the Fire Division was called to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Michigan Avenue. Firefighters arrived and found light smoke coming from the residence. Crews entered the house and discovered fire on the main level of the dwelling. They were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
Strudwick says at both locations, the Fire Division was assisted by the Sturgis Electric Department and Michigan Gas Utilities.
