(COLDWATER) – Multiple charges have been filed against a man following an almost seven month investigation.
Branch County District Court online documents say that 65 year old Jerry Surber of Sherwood was arraigned Monday on three felony counts of being in possession of child sexually abusive material and another felony count of using a computer to commit a crime.
Michigan State Police began an investigation in June 2024, after a special detective received a tip from Amazon Photo about potential child sexually abusive materials. State Police got an IP address and then executed a search warrant at Surber’s home, where they found several devices and took them to be analyzed by members of the MSP computer crimes unit.
Court records say that the analysts found several files that had child sexually abusive materials. Surber told investigators he could send items but not delete them.
Surber plead not guilty to the charges. A personal recognizance bond was set at $25,000. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for February 13 and a preliminary examination on February 20.
