(CENTREVILLE) – A State grant will be used to improve two Sturgis area roads.
The St. Joseph County Road Commission is receiving Transportation Economic Development Fund Category F grant of $252,000, which will be used to improve North Centreville and Wait Roads. The grant is coming from the Michigan Department Of Transportation.
The roads are considered seasonally restricted roadways, that serve as part of a route between U.S. 12 in Sturgis to M-66. Many businesses are on the road and use it as well to transport material and equipment, but unfortunately they are subject to seasonal weight restrictions.
The Road Commission plans to widen and resurface North Centreville Road from the Sturgis city limits north to Wait Road. They will also resurface Wait Road east to M-66.
The total cost of the project will be $315,000.
The grant was one of ten announced around Michigan, totaling over $3.1 million. The grants were awarded as part of a competitive program, with 43 applications being submitted for consideration.
