Indiana Meth Lab Seizure Numbers Down
Saturday, January 12, 2019

(FORT WAYNE) – The number of clandestine meth lab seizures by state police last year was near a 20 year low.

The influx of imported crystal methamphetamine, along with improved legislative measures passed during the 2017 General Assembly, has had a large impact on the domestic production of methamphetamine in Indiana.

The overall goal initially was to suppress domestic meth production and the diversion of Pseudoephedrine. A decline in domestic production of methamphetamine has positively resulted in a drastic decline in the number of children identified at lab scenes.

The number of labs seized in the 11 counties of northeast Indiana that make up District 22 last year was just 21. That compares to a peak of 270 in 2013.

Noble County which peaked at 70 labs, 2nd highest in the state, in 2015 had just 3 labs in 2018.

LaGrange County’s peak of 16 labs was in 2015. Last year just 2 labs were discovered.
