(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education received an update on a possible capital improvement plan for the district during their Monday study session.
Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert shared that last Fall, Tower Pinkster came in and did a needs assessment for the District. He then went out and met with school staff, the community and the Board and got their input. In December a ten year plan was put together.
The needs were broken down into the top ten items to be done; then Priority 1 needs and Priority 2 needs. To do just the top ten items on the list, Ebert says it would cost the School District $5.3 million.
Funding mechanisms were also discussed during these meetings according to Ebert. LINKC.
Ebert says sinking fund monies can only be used for improvements and upgrades to the District.
Ebert says the feedback from staff and the community was all positive.

Additional questions asked were how many mills should be asked for if the District moves forward with a site sinking fund, and for how long should the sinking fund be for.
Ebert says they will take this information and go back out to speak with the community and staff and see if they are still in support before moving forward.
