(LAGRANGE) - During a very brief meeting Monday morning LaGrange County Commissioners heard a report from the sheriff on changing out the lighting at the jail.
Sheriff Jeff Campos said he got three quotes for changing the lighting to LED's, but those quotes varied widely from $42,000 to $140,000.
Campos also noted the name change for his department. Instead of LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department it will now be the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office. He noted the sign at the jail will be updated to reflect the change.
Elkhart County did the same change recently, and there’s a document from the national sheriff’s association that draws a legal distinction between office and department. It says departments are subordinate to a governing county body. But the internal operation of an office of sheriff is the sole responsibility of the elected sheriff.
The Commissioners also gave the highway department the green light to sell up to five trucks at an upcoming Spring auction.
