Friday, June 21, 2019

(UNDATED) – A charge has been filed against a Tekonsha man following an incident in Girard Township.

Michigan State Police say 47 year old Byron Welch allegedly got into an argument June 22 at the Girard Township home of 51 year Barry Justice. Troopers say Justice's girlfriend called 911 saying Welch beat up Justice, after the two men got fought over the way the woman backed a trailer into Justice's driveway.

Justice was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries.

Following an investigation, troopers arrested Welch at his home Wednesday. He was arraigned in Branch County District Court on a charge of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Welch was able to post a $15,000 bond and was released from the Branch County Jail. He is due back in District Court for a probably cause hearing June 27 and for a preliminary hearing on July 2.
