(YPSILANTI) - Ypsilanti Lincoln's Emoni Bates, the consensus No. 1 players in all of high school basketball, verbally committed to Michigan State University on Monday afternoon on ESPN. "As I do know right now, I will be committing to Michigan State University," Bates said, surrounded by his family and high school coach. As a sophomore last season, Bates averaged 31.6 points, nine rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, and was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year after the Railsplitters finished 19-3. He scored 63 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a double-overtime win Feb. 18 against Chelsea. In his announcement, Bates said "I'm not sure what the future may hold, but I do know right now I will be committing to Michigan State," referencing the fact that he could choose to forego college if the NBA changes it's one-and-done rule.
