(MATTESON TOWNSHIP) – A fire on Sunday damaged a pole barn in Branch County’s Matteson Township.
The Bronson Fire Department says they were contacted at 2:30 PM Sunday about a fire at 903 West Shore Drive. Firefighters got to the scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming through the roof of the 24 by 36 foot structure.
The Colon and Sherwood Fire Departments were called in to provide mutual aid and to bring in their tankers. The fire was finally put out.
Bronson fire officials say their investigation showed that a lawn mower is the likely cause of the fire. It was put back into the barn approximately 10 minutes before the fire started.
No damage estimates were given due to the fire. One firefighter did receive a minor injury.
