(FORT WAYNE) - As Hoosiers gear up for the holiday season, Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne are stepping up enforcement to keep roads safe.

Troopers are joining the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for the annual Safe Family Travel campaign, running now through the end of December and supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Drivers can expect extra patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and saturation patrols aimed at stopping impaired driving, aggressive driving, and seat belt violations. The message is simple: buckle up, slow down, and never drive impaired. Alcohol remains a leading factor in deadly crashes during the holidays, and failure to wear a seat belt is still one of the most preventable causes of death on the road.
