(BATAVIA TOWNSHIP) - Branch County Sheriff's deputies say a routine traffic stop in Batavia Township ended with two people behind bars and drugs pulled from the vehicle. At 12:22 a.m. on Monday, deputies stopped the car after noticing an inoperable headlight, no license plate light, and the vehicle drifting out of its lane. During the stop, officers identified the female passenger and discovered she had multiple outstanding warrants. Coldwater Police were called in, and their K9 unit performed an open-air sniff around the vehicle -- alerting deputies to the presence of narcotics. A search followed, and officers say drugs were found inside.

Both occupants, a man and woman from Coldwater, were arrested. The male driver was booked into the Branch County Jail on drug-related charges. The female passenger was also taken to the county jail on her outstanding warrants.
