(WASHINGTON) - Indiana's entire congressional delegation is making a full-court press to bring one of the nation's next drone test sites to the Hoosier State.
In a letter sent Monday, all nine U.S. representatives and both senators urged the Federal Aviation Administration to select Indiana as it expands its national Unmanned Aircraft System Test Site program. The bid is backed by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the Applied Research Institute. Lawmakers say landing the designation would give Indiana's universities and manufacturers a major boost, opening the door to developing next-generation drone technology right here at home. The FAA is expected to name two new test sites as part of its expansion.
